Why this matters: Your voice is uniquely yours. Before we create a voice model from your recording, we want you to fully understand what happens to your voice data, how it will be used, and your rights regarding it.
1. What Happens to Your Voice Recording
When you record your voice through BellaBear, the following process occurs:
- Your voice recording (typically 5-10 minutes of you reading aloud) is uploaded to our secure cloud storage (Azure Blob Storage with AES-256 encryption at rest).
- The recording is transmitted to Fish Audio, our third-party text-to-speech (TTS) provider, which processes it to create a voice model.
- The voice model is a digital representation of your voice characteristics that can be used to narrate text — it is not the recording itself.
- Both the original recording and the resulting voice model are stored securely and encrypted.
2. Third-Party Processing
Your voice data will be processed by Fish Audio, a third-party TTS provider. Fish Audio operates under a Data Processing Agreement (DPA) with BellaBear that requires them to:
- Process your voice data solely for the purpose of creating your voice model
- Not use your voice data for any other purpose, including training their own AI models
- Delete your voice data upon our instruction
- Maintain industry-standard security measures
3. How Your Voice Model Will Be Used
Your voice model will be used exclusively for narrating personalized bedtime stories within the BellaBear service. Specifically:
- To convert AI-generated story text into audio that sounds like your voice
- Only for stories requested by your account or accounts you are linked to
- Never for advertising, marketing, or any purpose other than story narration
- Never sold, licensed, or shared with any third party beyond Fish Audio for processing
4. Data Retention
How long we keep your voice data:
- Your voice recording and voice model are retained for as long as your consent is active and your account exists
- If you revoke consent or delete your account, your voice data will be permanently deleted from all systems (including backups) within 30 days of your request
- Maximum retention: 3 years from last account activity, even if the account is not explicitly deleted
- You will receive confirmation when deletion is complete
5. Your Right to Revoke Consent
You may revoke this consent at any time by:
- Visiting your account settings and clicking "Delete My Voice"
- Emailing privacy@bellabear.co with the subject "Revoke Voice Consent"
Upon revocation, your voice recording and voice model will be permanently deleted within 30 days. Stories already generated using your voice model will remain available, but no new stories will be narrated in your voice.
6. Individual Consent Requirement
Important: Each person whose voice is recorded must sign their own consent agreement. A parent or account holder cannot consent on behalf of other adults (such as grandparents or other family members). Each voice owner must read and agree to this consent form individually.
