Why we need this: The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) requires us to obtain verifiable parental consent before collecting any information related to children under 13. BellaBear is a parent-operated service — children never interact with BellaBear directly — but we still collect information about your child to personalize their stories.
1. What Data We Collect About Your Child
To create personalized bedtime stories, we collect the following information about your child through you (the parent or guardian):

We do NOT collect your child's real name. Every child is represented by a Bear Persona — a fun character name they choose. This keeps stories personal and magical without ever exposing your child's real identity.
2. How This Data Is Used
Your child's Bear Persona information is used solely for story personalization. Specifically:
- Bear Persona details are included in story generation prompts sent to our AI provider (Anthropic Claude)
- The AI creates a unique story featuring your child's Bear Persona character
- The story is then narrated using voice synthesis technology
Your child's data is NEVER used for:
- Advertising or marketing to your child
- Profiling or behavioral tracking
- Training AI models
- Sharing with third parties for their own purposes
3. Data Retention
- Bear Persona details: Retained until you delete them or delete your account
- "What happened today" entries: Automatically deleted after 7 days
- Generated stories: Retained for 90 days, then automatically deleted
4. Third-Party Disclosures
Your child's Bear Persona data is shared with the following service providers, each operating under a Data Processing Agreement:

5. Your Rights as a Parent

- Review all Bear Persona information and data we hold about your child
- Update or correct any information
- Delete your child's Bear Persona and all associated data
- Refuse further collection — you can remove the "what happened today" feature at any time
- Revoke this consent — which will result in deletion of all child-related data
